Modern Produce ERP that supports EDI
Reserva is a modern, cloud-based ERP built for fresh produce. We integrate the way modern businesses expect: clean APIs, flexible integrations, and automation across sales, inventory, logistics, and accounting.
And when your customers require EDI to do business, Reserva supports that too.
Reserva’s EDI capabilities are built and maintained by our in-house development team, so you can meet retailer and distributor requirements without running a separate system or rely on third party integrations.

What is EDI?
EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is a standardized way for businesses to exchange documents electronically.
Instead of emailing PDFs or manually entering orders, EDI sends structured, machine-readable transactions between systems. That makes it ideal for large retailers and distributors that need consistent, automated communication at scale.
Most Common EDI Transactions
- Purchase order (PO): “Here’s what we want to buy.”
- Acknowledgment: “We received it and accept it (or propose changes).”
- Advance Ship Notice (ASN): “Here’s what’s shipping, how it’s packed, and when it’s arriving.”
- Invoice: “Here’s what we are billing.”
- Remittance advice: “Here’s how and what we paid.”
The good news is that all this data already exists in Reserva. We can get you compliant ready in little time.
Order to Cash
This is the most common EDI scope. It automates the full selling cycle:
- EDI Purchase Orders in (often 850, sometimes grocery-specific)
- Functional acknowledgments so the retailer knows messages were received
- PO acknowledgments and changes to confirm availability and handle edits
- ASNs (Advance Ship Notices) with pack and ship details
- Invoices that match the PO and what shipped
- Remittance advice for payment reconciliation
Why it matters in produce: this loop is where the majority of compliance penalties happen. If the ASN is wrong, the label does not scan, or the invoice does not match, suppliers often see deductions, delays, and disputes.
Catalog, pricing, and item data sync
Retailers and distributors often need structured product and pricing communication:
- Item and pack information (case pack, UOM, UPC/GTIN, internal item IDs)
- Pricing catalogs and price updates
- Optional inventory availability messages
Why it matters in produce: item attributes change quickly (pack styles, brands, counts, seasonal items). EDI helps keep the “system of record” aligned so orders and invoices do not break.
Logistics and scheduling
Some trading partners go beyond orders and invoices to automate receiving efficiency:
- Shipping schedules and planning signals
- Carrier and shipment coordination
- Appointment-driven workflows tied to an ASN
Why it matters in produce: DCs rely on ASNs and labels to receive quickly. When your shipping data is clean, trucks turn faster and disputes decrease.
Retailers and distributors known for requiring EDI
Most large grocery retailers and food distributors require EDI for at least orders, ASNs, and invoices.
Grocery and retail chains
- Kroger and many of its banners
- Walmart
- Target
- Costco
- Albertsons and its banners
- Amazon / Whole Foods (program dependent)
Grocery distributors and wholesalers
- UNFI
- KeHE
- Other regional distributors that require EDI for onboarding and ongoing compliance
Reserva’s approach: EDI plus modern integrations
You should not have to choose between a modern, cloud-based ERP and retailer-grade EDI.
Reserva is designed for produce operations first, with:
- Modern APIs for integrations
- An in-house EDI development team
- A single system where EDI data connects to real orders, shipments, inventory, and accounting
